ARGH BLOCK!

Ok, that's slightly inaccurate. I don't have a block. I have the opposite in the sense that I have about fifteen different scenerios, storylines and new characters vying for my attention at present. When I sit at my laptop, they all cancel each other out and I am left flapping my mouth open and closed like a (over used metaphore) fish out of water.
I would hate to be around me when I'm like this. I'm irritable, annoying (to myself as much as anyone else) and could quite honestly punch a wall several times.
My four cats are picking up on this and instead of giving me the space to get over the strop, they are making a special effort to block my view of the screen and keyboard. Currently Mai is weaving between my hands and purring. If I were to turn the computer off and give her my full attention, she would no longer be interested in me.
So, what to do? Eating copious amounts of chocolate and ice cream have (surprisingly) not worked. Taking a break from it doesn't work, watching funny videos on Youtube doesn't work. So what does? No idea! If I knew I would happily tell you, in fact, I would bottle it and make a fortune!
Grrrrrrrrrrrr!

I get like this. Giving up won't help. Trust me. I has a similar situation and I ended up not being able to sleep properly for a week since I had various characters screaming for my attention. Is there not one character, or scene that grips you, or keeps repeating in increasing detail until it's so vivid you could reach out and touch it? No? Try deep breathing, eyes closed with your fingers over the keyboard and see what pours out. As a last result you could glare at the screen and demand words appear. My cat Oliver loves when I do this since he sees it as the perfect opportunity to nip at my ankles. Good luck.

Thanks hun. Mai has lost interest in me for the moment. I've tried demanding words appear lol. I think I'm just going to have to type whatever enters my head and then filter it after!

I get this, too. It's so frustrating. But the fact is, you have to focus on one project in order to make any progress. Basically I find the best thing is to jot down the ideas/characters etc, either on a list or on separate pieces of paper (preferably the latter), go through them and ask yourself honestly which one you're most drawn to at present. Then put all the others safely in a file so you can go back to them another time, and make yourself settle down to the one you've chosen. Even try doing spider diagrams or mindmaps to take the idea further, or simply sit down and write to see what happens. Don't worry it it's rubbish. It's just a first draft and can be (vastly) improved later. The main thing is to keep working on that one. Difficult at first, but after a while the pieces will start to fall into place, albeit perhaps slowly and painfully. However bad and contrived it may seem, it's still better than struggling to cope with several ideas and getting nowhere.
    Hope this helps :-)

Rebecca has beaten me to it. I was going to suggest exactly what she has. It's a nice problem to have. I would much rather have too many ideas than a total block, where nothing is coming through. So look at it positively and think how many projects you have to keep you going.

By the way, if you want everyone to see your blog (ie have it shown on the main wall under the blog heading), you need to make it public.
