About

I live on a Game Farm/Lodge in South Africa, with my husband, cat & 3 dogs, contending with the demands of holiday makers, so writing is my sanctuary. I am part of rather narrow minded conservative community, revolving primarily around gossip. Unfortunately, this provides far too much inspiration. I always feel guilty - NOT!!!!!!

I thought it was an artichoke, then MarkR said it was a cardoon, but they are in the same family anyway. I forgot to ask the gardener yesterday. Got distracted by a magnolia in flower!

The funny thing about my learning stuff is that the knowledge transfer is usally in the opposite direction: from places like the Cloud where someone says something and I have to start thinking about what I think, via a blog post where I sort the thinking out properly, and finally into my PhD...

Hello again. We're not farming now, we've moved back down to Natal (Valley of a Thousand hills, at the top of Inchanga Mountain, near the halfway mark of the comrades) but when we were farming we lived in Hazyview. It's good to talk to South Africans, and I'm glad I'm not the only one who found farming communities a little bit "claustraphobic!! I love where we live now, because we are still surrounded by beautiful hills and countryside, but close enough to Pmburg, Dbn, Hillcrest etc, that nobody knows our business!! I am a hermit!!
