Feeling warm and fuzzy.

It took me two and a half hours to drive to work this morning.  I phoned in  to say I was going to be late. I checked in when I arrived and was told that my class were in the hall with all the other classes whose teachers had not arrived.  I went to pick them up - loaded with my laptop, school bag and a shopping trolley full of 'stuff'.   I pushed the door to the hall open and walked in.  I saw my class immediately - they were the kids clutching shopping bags with the toppings for their pizzas, their aprons and other things needed for a successful Food Tech lesson.  They looked despondent and misreble. They  looked as the door opened and cheered me!  A really loud cheer.  Then they all followed me out of the hall to the Food Tech room.  One of them asked me how long it had taken me to get to school.  When I told him he said 'wow!'  They were amazing - they just got on with the lesson - one of the girls said that they would be fine if I needed to go to the toilet.   It wasn't the cheer that made me warm and fuzzy.  It wasn't the no nonsense way they got on with the lesson.  It wasn't that all the pizzas were a success.  It was that each one of them said 'thank you miss' as they left at the end of the lesson.  Kids who are not known for courtesy.  Today it was a priviledge to teach them.    I will tell them that in their next lesson - and emphasize my thanks they way all good teachers do - with chocolate!
