About
About my novel: Denied.
After completing my first novel (An adult 100,000 word Vampire tale called Denied), and having it edited and perfected by The Writers' Workshop (Thanks, Harry!), I found myself in the horrible position of having to turn down a publishing contract, due to the amount of control the publisher wanted over the content, title, etc. (Selling means selling, after all.)
After that I went with Troubador and self-published with a full print run, sales reps and distribution. The novel was given a "quality test" by Waterstones and (thanks to the quality gained through Troubador and Writers' Workshop), is now on their core distribution catalogue.
It officially went on sale on 6th September and is available at bookshops throughout the UK (but your best bet is Waterstones). It can be bought online at www.waterstones.com; www.W H Smith.com, www.Amazon.co.uk - and many other online shops. In the US, it can be ordered at book stores or bought at www.Amazon.com.
It can also be purchased via my own dedicated site: www.deniedbytes.com (Using code DB7786 for a 20% discount).
It is receiving national advertising in SFX and Gorezone magazines and, happily, has started shifting from shelves as a result.
About me:
I was born in Lancashire and have been published in various independent national magazines in England, as well as having several literary short-stories and a dramatic monologue broadcast on BBC radio.
A literary story ‘One Of The Boys’, appears in edition #22 of R .P. Burnham’s annual US literary journal ‘The Long Story’; one of my spec screenplays landed a semi-finalist position in Francis Ford Coppola’s First Annual Zoetrope SP Contest.
A poem ‘Genetically Modified Food For Thought,’ was published in the fourth edition of the Paris/New York poetry journal ‘Van Gogh’s Ear’, and I was Senior Correspondent for Francophile Internet magazine ‘Bonjour Paris’ for one year.
A ‘Bonjour Paris’ article written with Karen Fawcett (President) and Sarah Gilbert Fox (Directeur Général), was published in the 3rd edition of the popular guide-book ‘Paris For Dummies’.
My BBC monologue was translated into Serbian by translator Djordje Krivokapic and received a radio broadcast in Belgrade.
I live in Paris, France, where I worked for just short of three years as a copywriter for an international advertising agency.
At the start of this year, due to the number of published articles for which I received payment, I was elected to full membership of The Society of Authors.
My reason for self-publishing rather than selling my novel is ultimately pretty straightforward: Just because you need a doctor to deliver your baby, doesn’t mean you let him name it.
