Norsaxhound ...Now that I'm back home, I feel quite chipper as I gave a very successful talk and reading in Harrogate on the 24th September for the local branch of the U3A. The programme consisted of a talk about historical research and why I became a writer, gave readings and also signed a surprising number of books. As I said, it all went well and it's something I could easily get totally hooked on especially the readings and book signings. Now I need to finish the book I'm currently writing which is the prequel to BELLÊME The Norman Warrior.

Jennifer Can you tell me what U3A is? I have always enjoyed writing, but am just now sticking my neck out to get to know the writing community. I live near Harrogate and would have loved to listen to your historical research talk. Congratulations on it going so well!

Lovely blog, thanks for sharing. I grew up in Yorkshire and Bolton Abbey was a favourite day out. I particularly loved the stepping stopes that cross the river.

I love all those ruined abbeys, and the Capability Brown gardens. Went to Fountains abbey & Studley Royal and liked it so much I went again the next weekend, plus signed up for the NT right there.

Here is my picture of Bolton Abbey in North Yorkshire taken in September, 2014. Back in the summer of 1943, my mother, took me from war torn London, to my Aunty Annie’s house, in Primrose Hill, Skipton. While there, we went on an ...

About

A short biographical note
--Roy Stedall-Humphryes --

After receiving my National Diploma in Design at Waltham Forest Art College in East London, England, where I studied Graphic Art/Typography, I then went on to study, Photography under the celebrated film director, Ken Russell.
After leaving college, I continued my studies privately in Graphic Design and Illustration with the Czech sculptor, Franta Belsky and his wife, Margaret Belsky, illustrator and cartoonist.
I joined a London advertising studio as graphic designer and typographer. I then progressed towards journalism in the British national newspaper industry where I spent most of my working life. First as an editorial designer, then as a caption writer and lastly as a photographer.
In my spare time, I indulged my photographic passion for medieval castle architecture, supplying photographs to the North London Picture agency, Collections Picture Library and for my own web site, Castles-Galore, and Spanish scenes, costumes and Medieval architecture for, Cephas Picture Library.
Whilst researching at the British Library in London, into the engineers and craftsmen who constructed the great medieval fortresses of the British Isles, I came across the name, Robert de Bellême. I was so fascinated by this nobleman, that I had to write his story, resulting in my first historical fiction novel, ‘BELLÊME The Norman Warrior’ on sale at Amazon.
Having been published as an ebook, it will shortly follow as a paperback.
A sequel is in preparation, with a further two novels in the planning stage.
