Hi Ziggy. I can't lay my hands on the quotes but swear both John Lennon and Mozart ascribed their inspiration to the Collective Consciousness (of which Jung says much). Ergo, lots of people have roughly the same idea apparently spontaneously and ...

Ziggy, there is no copyright on plots, so even if yours was even closer to the other one that wouldn't matter - so long as all the prose is your own - you've written it in your own words. You say 'To be fair to the other story, there is a line or ...

Well, recently I started on a short story based around the legend of La Loba, the Bone Woman. I then promptly took out a book I hadn't read for years, and discovered that one of the short stories was eerily similar. I worry that perhaps my ...

Ziggy um, yes. Should really, really be revising for my maths exam tomorrow. Instead am lounging around wearing a David Bowie t shirt, eating strawberry bootlaces, and reading Harry Potter fan fictions. Oh dear.

Ziggy Hehe ;D it's kind of walking the line between being imaginative and being ridiculous, I guess.

Squidge But even the ridiculous can be convincing if you write it well...look at the great Sir Terry. Most of his stuff is just barmy...but so well written, it all becomes completely plausible.

Winter H. Bree Don't! You'll never find an agent! ...Lol, I kid. My advice goes for probably any writing. Start with a bang and don't info-dump. Good luck! =D

CJ There is that point, Winter! True story - I asked a class of 14 year olds what genre they thought would be most popular with publishers, and they all said fantasy. When I said that nothing could be further from the truth, they didn't believe me. As one girl said: 'why would the publishers not want to publish what people read?'. It makes no sense... fantasy is one of the most read and most popular genres out there, but it's real agent poison - snobbery? Or something else?

CJ I don't think fantasy helps itself, though... so many bloated tomes written in a self important style, full of cookie-cutter characters with unpronouncable names based on plots ripped from DnD campaigns... and I'm a fantasy fan!! If I have to read another story featuring a vulnerable-yet-sassy female fighter trying to prive herself in a man's world (dragons optional), I think I'll scream...
