It's not me, it's you.

I just don't feel the same about you anymore. Don't get upset, it's just.. we've grown apart.

I used to get a tingly fizzy feeling when I wrote, I was so excited and driven, proud to tell my friends I aspire to be a writer.

Now, not so much.

It's not just a dry spell, it's a drought of massive proportions. I haven't enjoyed writing or reading for half a yearish and it's not nice.

Will I ever get that special relationship back?

Try to think of it as one of life's cyclical phases, Liss - as Mark says, I am sure you will regain that special relationship. :)X

If it makes you feel any better, I wrote tons during my teenage years and then it all tailed off when I left school aged 18. Every now and then, I would have the overwhelming feeling that I had a story to tell but nothing ever came of it and other things took priority in my life. Then one day, very suddenly, in the middle of teaching an English lesson on story openings as it happens, I got the buzz back and then I couldn't write quickly enough. The buzz has stayed ever since though there have been occasional dry spells along the way. It was quite a long break between leaving school and getting back into it - I'm not saying it will take that long for you - but the point is that it happened when I was least expecting it, when I wasn't trying too hard and when my mind was just in the right place at the right time. Hope you get it back again :-)

When I couldn't write stories, I found myself writing poems - angry poems. They made me feel better, I hardly showed them to anyone, and eventually, story-writing came back. For me, writing longer stuff didn't happen until I got old and wrinkly.
I think everyone's journey is different, and there will be times when you're absorbing more than you're giving out. You know you are a writer, Liss, but not everyone writes all the time. What you are doing is accumulating life experience, which means you're storing up future material. Try not to worry about it. xxx

Sky, it does help. It makes me realise sometimes it comes and goes and John, I'll try not to worry, at least I know it's not completely lost... :) xxx

Liss, I used to love writing in my teens and dreamt of becoming an author. As school life took over and I became convinced I was rubbish the dream disappeared. Roll on twenty years and the little bug resurfaced...now I am still riddled with self doubt but I love to write, and I am obsessed with reading...I never thought I'd prefer reading to television, but it's a no brainer.

I suggest you give yourself some space, focus on other things, start to read for the fun of it, and then if an idea comes to you write like crazy...

I don't think anyone who ever became an artist thought it was a great idea at first...the question is what do you want to get out if it? If you are not getting anything out of it at the moment, don't beat yourself up, just step back...

I hope this helps in some way... :)
