Success!
Bask in it chaps, it's not very often I word a blog as cheerily as
this.
The word "success" with an ! reminded me of Pocahontas, where Governor Ratcliffe says: "successss will be miiiine, at last!"
I digress.
I have just received a jolt of interest in my first ever writing project, which I have been dying to revitalise and make less-shit.
I wrote out a plot as it would look on somewhere like Wikipedia *strange tactic, I know* and then challenged myself to begin in the empty document and write until my darling Morrissey stopped singing. It worked!
Not only did I enjoy and fantabulous song, it got the juices flowing!
Huzzah! Any crazy techniques personal to you lot? Or better yet, does anyone have any writing/good luck rituals?
You first...x

Congrats on your cheeriness btw. :D
It's funny you mentioning about songs inspiring you as that's one of my main pushes for writing my latest script. It goes from the 60's to present day, starting in the present with flashbacks. One flashback in particular is one of my character's sat in a pub when, "I love you baby" starts to play on the jukebox. It takes him back to his childhood, seeing his mum, drunk, dancing around the living room to the song, picking him up and swinging him around, then collapsing and dying. I've decided to make it my opening scene now.
All three of my characters have specific songs from their past, as well as present, which means something to them, so, a ritual of mine, to get into the character's head, is not only to be aware of their habits, flaws, expressions, but their music taste, and listening to songs that mean something to them really helps the mood. As Mark has said on CW's blog, it brings out the emotion.
Keep going and thanks for the inspiring blog.
Minxie - your use of song sounds brilliant, as does your opening scene. I love a bit of mood too.
