NERD ALERT: It's actually a Short S.25 Sunderland, which was
developed from the Empire Flying Boat. My dad flew one as a young
pilot. By 1962, they were all retired from the RAF but I think some
other countries' air forces used them into the 70s. It was one of
the RAF's longest serving aircraft.
I meant to imply that I was the nerd, knowing these things! Inside
the glamorous spy, there's a planespotter trying to get
out...
My dad was in Sri Lanka in the Ceylon days, Prop. Chuffed that you
like the cover - maybe you can read it to your little grandson when
he's a bit older ;-)
Cheers Spi, I will show him the cover tomorrow and we will have an
hour or two discussion on airplanes and tigers...and maybe the
grand old days of empire.
Smallest grandson shouted "plane" when I showed him the cover. He
declared that the tiger is actually a lion but there you go. I look
forward to reading it to him.
