David It's a tired old routine. Jung would say he's projecting his own problems with self-image onto another. His use of language is my issue, he discredits the memory of a great writer.

Monica Handle William Burroughs, methinks, but the sentiment is spot on.

Not only confused proverbs, but there are also mixed metaphors in general to consider. I once pointed out to a sub-editor that a freelance had described a politician as walking the roadmap into the future - as if, in some vision from Borges, the map ...

I think another word for that is malapropism, Barb. Just to be a clever dick about it! Anyway, good call. My thinking cap's on and I'm ready to take the plunge . . .

The murder was easy to plan. First, trick the stupid pooch into playing my games. Then, get him on the frickin horse. I could see he was totally innocent of my designs. I had him! Turning it over in my mind I decided to feed him before the deed, ...

About

Worked as a professional journalist for most of the 00s. Then moved into scriptwriting. I had a radio play and a short film produced, and was working on a pilot for a tv series when I decided to focus on my novel. (samples of my writing: http://writing-community.writersworkshop.co.uk/forum/topic/15994; http://writing-community.writersworkshop.co.uk/forum/topic/16225; http://writing-community.writersworkshop.co.uk/forum/topic/16312 http://writing-community.writersworkshop.co.uk/forum/topic/13589)

In the past I've also spent time as a musician. I played bass guitar in a few embarrassingly-named bands down the years: UGE, X-Amount, The Zens and Allandale.

Hello my SE buddy-in-arms! If it is, indeed, your birthday today (coz we know the Cloud has a warped sense of humour around dates) then I hope you have a very Happy Birthday and that you're doing something fun to celebrate.
