Writing for a specific audience
I had an idea, a while back, to write the story of our guinea pigs
- bear with me! - and give a copy to each of my children as a
kind of exaggerated memoir. I've not written for
children before and have just begun. I'm experimenting with
little illustrations too. It's not up to Anna
Sewell(!) by any stretch but it's really nice to write
for an interested audience about a story they want to hear. I
think that's what you're meant to do as a rule, have an audience in
mind and write for them. I realise the point now!

I was a playgroup leader at one point, aeons ago, and had to write a children's story to help gain the qualifying certificate. My audience were the playgroup children, of course, which included my own son. He loved it and that was praise I shall never forget! :)
Great that you are enjoying your story so much and enjoy the enthusiasm! It might change, but then again, it might not. My son is still admiring of many of my achievements, whilst probably disapproving of other things I do.... :)
That's lovely, Jill, that your son still admires you - and good too that you do things of which he disapproves!!
