Winter H. Bree An item that keeps cropping up: I'm not too good at the whole 'Show, don't tell' thing. Any pointers?18 days ago-
JT It's a hard one. I am still learning to do this. But in stead of saying that a character is agreessive show it. For example. Sid grabed him by the jacket voomed his face closer, speaking though clenched teeth said. "If you ever do that again I'll break your kneecap, got it you little squirt!" Cloudies please feel free to correct me if I haven't got this right.

by Bren 1 month agoAha that makes a difference Winter. yes, I have been perusing those publishers. I had lots of calls from an American one to the point of it being harrassment - we are in the wrong business. I am trying to format my book now to put out as a POD with Create Space. It is an expensive business - I suppose it is time consuming. It is taking me a long time. Have a good day!

by Jill 2 months agoGood luck with that challenge for GH! I had planned to enter, but health issues etc over the past three months have stood in the way of being able to concentrate properly on the proposed entry. If it is meant to be, then I'll get it into what I consider to be the right shape in time! I'm going with the flow and not stressing out about it, as I have contingency plans and am very determined about my opus, which was begun many years ago and had many revisions along the way! I'll raise a glass to you, if you turn out to be the worthy winner, Winter! :)

by CJ 2 months agoHello, Winter - sorry I didn't get back to you yesterday (we were in hospital thanks to my 3 year old putting a bead up her nose... fun fun fun!), and thank you! I also have a deviantART page (mistresselysia@deviantart.com) but I haven't been there for years - literally. I keep wondering if I should man up and resurrect the account, but I haven't drawn anything in so long due to having no time (all my time goes into my novel right now), I wonder how useful that would be. That and it's just yet another site to keep up to date with!! We do have a lot in common, and we fantasy writers need to stick together - there ain't a lot out there for us (god knows why, it's a popular enough genre with readers - I think it's just literary snobbery half the time), so we need each other! :-)

by Tony 3 months agoBest to re-post in the general forum if you want a wider audience. Some Groups work OK, others not so well. I'm not in the Sci-fi one, so I don't know about it. The main trouble with Groups is that members often forget to check in to see if anything's going on and they can get a bit iscolated. I think they tend to work well for brief periods when there is particular interest in something and then they go dormant until somthing else happens to attract interest.
As an alternative to the gereral forum, if you wish, you could post in your status 'Calling all Sci-fi members, I've jsut posted a piece in the Group etc. etc...' so those that see that will go and look - hopefully :-) -
by Barry Walsh 3 months agoI use Opera all the time and find nothing faster or as unfussy. However, it's being squeezed by big boys (Firefox Chrome - both seamless with the Cloud) and some sites just won't deal with Opera. Unless you're using a Mac, Safari might not go so well as the others.
