by Wrathnar the Unreasonable 2 years agoI was working on the endless editing yesterday, and my eye fell on the pad I keep next to the computer for obscure words. Like yourself, I'm kinda self-educated, so I often come across words I either don't know or am not entirely sure of. What I do is, I jot them down on the pad, and next time I'm using the word processor, I look them up on the dictionary in the toolbar, then make a note of the definition (otherwise I'll just forget it again!). I find this essential; after all, words are the writer's tools. If I was a carpenter, I'd need to keep my chisels sharp, so as a writer, I need to do the same with my vocabulary. It defly helps.
Word of caution, tho. Just cos you've learned a few long words, doesn't mean you have to use them! Stick to your natural vocabulary, and only use any new words you've learnt if they come out spontaneously. A major strength of your writing style is that it's so straightforward. Would hate to see you lose that. I endeavour to avoid writing egregiously concatenated sentences! -
by Wrathnar the Unreasonable 2 years agoI totally got a 'U' grade for Eng Lit O-level. Like, 'A' is for excellent, 'E' is for appalling, 'F' (fail) is for 'You're not even good enough to get a grade, loser', and 'U' (unclassified) is for 'Why did you even bother to turn up?'. I was quite proud, tho, cos I was the only one in my year to get a 'U'. Grammar! Who needs it?

by Pandora 2 years agoAh, Grasshopper, you fail to understand. When you truly achieve the Buddah-state you will know that you, the mirror and the reflection you seek are all aspects of Oneness. Look in the mirror with enlightenment and you will see nothing.

by Pandora 2 years agoGrasshopper, you ask me if there is shelter. For now it is enough for you to feel the coldness of rain upon your back. When you understand the essential nature of the 'I' who craves to be sheltered, only then will you realise that shelter is no longer necessary....

by Pandora 2 years agoThat's because you don't live in Rotherham bus station. It is the doorway to oneness. You can also catch a number 25 to Barnsley.
